Fun and educational activities

Throughout the year, the Villers-la-Ville CRIE, the Regional Environment Initiation Centre, organises a range of activities for all ages with the focus on the environment and ecology.

Located on the majestic site of the farm of Villers Abbey, the CRIE organises courses, training and events for schools based on experiments, creativity and personal interaction. An opportunity to learn more about nature and our natural heritage in general.

 
Belgian Geographical Centre (Walhain)

The Belgian Geographical Centre, inaugurated on 22 August 1998, is located at Le Tiège in Nil-Saint-Vincent (Walhain). It is embodied by a metallic sculpture, which is the work of the architect Bernard Defrenne.

Natural reserve of Gentissart (Villers-la-Ville / Mellery)

The former sand quarry at Gentissart, located between the villages of Tilly and Mellery, was acquired in 1996 by the Province of Walloon Brabant with a view to creating a teaching and biological interest site. The use of sand from below the level of the phreatic layer gave rise to several lakes totalling nearly 7 hectares free from any pollution. In addition to these lakes, this site with an area of 26 hectares is made up of varied environments (wild land, embankments, sandy areas, words, etc).

 
Grande chaussée (Mont-Saint-Guibert)

A nature reserve covering an area of 3 hectares, whose steep slopes are covered with beautiful examples of pedunculate oaks, maples, poplars, cherry trees, ash trees and elms.

 
Wisterzée Park and Castle (Court-Saint-Etienne)

The park, listed in 1976, contains some remarkable trees listed by the Walloon Region in 1993. The castle was built in 1874 by the Notary Debroux.
